Current Number Plate Dates (UK Registration Release Guide)

This guide explains Current Style Number Plate Dates, including the full list of March and September registration releases up to 2035. Since 2001, UK number plate formats have followed a predictable twice-yearly release schedule, making it easy to identify a vehicle's age from its registration. If you want to understand how the system works — or simply check which registrations are available — this guide lists every release date and identifier in one place.

How Current Style Number Plates Work

Modern UK Registration Format: Two numbers + Three letters

Example

AB51 XYZ

The two numbers in the middle show when the vehicle was registered.

March release = the year, e.g. 24 = 2024
September release = the year + 50, e.g. 74 = September 2024
March 2025 = 25
September 2025 = 75

To understand how this compares to older registration systems, see our guide to Number Plate Formats. You can also browse available registrations from the Home Page.
